When the winners of the 100 meters are crowned at the Olympics, they are called the world’s fastest humans. There may not be quite as much prestige in being known as the fastest humans in Ventura County, but it still gave the winners of the 100 at the Ventura County Track and Field Championships a lot of satisfaction.

Lavan Alston of St. Bonaventure High and Schuyler Moore of Oaks Christian School each claimed victories Friday in the 100 and 200 meters at Moorpark High. Both sprinters are sophomores. In the 100s, Alston caught a break while Moore missed one.

Alston won the boys 100 in 10.77 seconds with Gabriel Wirtz of Simi Valley finishing second in 10.83 and Montre Lee of St. Bonaventure placing third in 10.89. But Camarillo junior Ahmed Obed, who has the best mark in the 100 in Ventura County this season, fell in pain midway down the track.

Moore took the double, but finished in a dead heat for first with Westlake’s Abigail Smith in the 100, at 11.87.
